Thank you Disney for inviting me to travel through time and space for a special press day, A Wrinkle in Time! We met and interviewed Storm Reid (Meg Murray), Deric McCabe (Charles Wallace) and producer Catherine Hand, who spent over 50 years committed to making her favorite childhood book into a major motion picture.
We had the distinct pleasure speaking to Catherine Hand. Catherine Hand is not only an amazing producer, she’s a mom of three who had a stint as a political appointee when President Barack Obama named her deputy director of the Office of Personnel Management, WOW. I would have loved to ask her question regarding her political career however I know I would have asked a million question and would have never spoken about what we were there for, the wonderful A Wrinkle in Time.
Catherine Hand discovered A Wrinkle in Time when she was about 10 years old. She had gotten in trouble for talking in class and was sent to the library. The librarian asked, "What books do you like to read?" And she said, "I don't like to read." Librarian, in turn, said, "Well, you might like this book called A Wrinkle in Time. It won the Newbery Award and I think it's about a girl just like you...give it a try." That night Catherine read it and she fell in love, most importantly she fell in love with reading. Catherine finished it and immediately started a letter to Walt Disney to tell him to make the book into a movie. “And then I was too shy. I didn't send the letter.” Then a couple years later when Walt passed, Catherine was so sad and felt so guilty that she hadn't told him about A Wrinkle in Time. So she made a promise to herself that she would grow up and make it. That was 50 years ago!
If you haven’t read the book nor seen the movie as of yet, I highly suggest you see the movie first then read the book. This was the first time, I saw the movie and read the book afterwards. I read the book to my little one every night and when we ended our journey, I came up with 5 things that we say every morning and with Catherine Hand help, we now have a 6th one.
1. I am loved 2. I am wanted 3. I am great 4. I am amazing 5. I am smart 6. We are loved

Meeting Storm Reed and Deric McCabe, these two are absolutely magical together. Not only did they play siblings in A Wrinkle in Time but they acted as such. Honestly, if I hadn’t known who they were I would have thought they were brother and sister that love each other to the moon and back. Storm Reed has her own production company which is highly impressive, a young lady who knows what she wants and she’s going after it. I admire her passion and aura, she’s beautiful inside and out. Deric McCabe is absolutely hilarious, he is constantly joking around and full of energy, he brings an instant smile to your face and makes your day brighter. I asked both of them if they had read the book, both said they’re working on it, to cute!
A Wrinkle in Time is a lovely story about family, love, acceptance and most importantly understanding that you can grow leaving your comfort zone. You have to have faith in yourself, know that you are worthy of love, you are worthy of this life and you can succeed by having people that love and support you surrounding you!
