SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Press Junket!

Thank you Sony Animation for inviting me to the Press Junket and Screening of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. We were given the opportunity to interview Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Luna Lauren Velez, Christina Steinberg, Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman. As a multicultural single mom, I absolutely loved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Our first roundtable was with Luna Lauren Velez and Christina Steinberg. Luna is the voice of Miles Morales mom, Rio Morales. Luna plays a Puerto Rican mom that loves her kiddo with all heart and has a pot of stew on the stove for morning breakfast. As an ethnic mom sometimes our mornings aren’t bacon and eggs, it's an ethnic dish that I’ve made for the day. I loved and appreciated that comfort food was prominent in the movie because that is exactly what our house is like. Now every child that’s raised in an ethnic family will see someone just like themselves or the very least relatable on the big screen.

The characters are amazing, full of life and audience goers will love every bit of action on the big screen. What makes Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse different than other animations, it’s old-style graphics techniques commingle with digital wizardry. Wiggly lines indicate the tingling of spider senses, while electronic bursts signal the presence of interdimensional static. With infinite Spider-people, there are infinite possibilities, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), the first non-white incarnation of the character, first introduced in the Ultimate line of comics. Miles is a unique young man, artistic, and has a zest for life with his unbelievable spraying street art talent.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces audiences to a new type of superhero with Miles Morales, a young man of color who shows kids that anyone can be a superhero. What I loved most when Shameik Moore explained how he manifested the role for himself. Shameik had said a few years back he read the Miles Morales story and what dawned on him was that he was Miles. How amazing is that, to actually think of something that you want, writing it down and making happen for yourself.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not only the coolest Spider-Man, it’s EPIC!!!!
